By 5 Wheel Scooters on July 16th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

There are many bed and mattress options for individuals who are looking to completely furnish their bedroom or purchase a new bed for their already furnished bedroom. For those who want to purchase a bed that can be adjusted to fit their sleeping needs, an adjustable bed is a wise purchase. There are many different types of adjustable beds for sale on the consumer market and the following will provide some factors to consider when choosing the right adjustable bed for your needs.
    - Size of Bed
The first factor one must consider when shopping for an adjustable bed is the desired size of the bed one wants for their bedroom. Adjustable beds come in all different sizes so that one can choose from a small, individually sized bed to a larger bed which can be used to accommodate two people. One should purchase a bed that will fit comfortably in their bedroom and accommodate each individual who is going to be sleeping in the bed.
    - Basic Model or Luxury Model
Adjustable beds are also available in a wide array of styles. One can choose from the most basic adjustable bed models to ones that have all of the bells and whistles. When trying to decide which type of bed is right for you, it is important to consider what uses the adjustable bed is trying to serve. If one simply wants an adjustable bed for comfort reasons, then perhaps a basic model will do. On the other hand, if one is purchasing an adjustable bed for medical reasons, such as back problems, then perhaps looking at the higher end models that provide more position options is the best bet.
    - Price Range
It is important to note that adjustable beds come in a variety of prices. One can spend a reasonable amount on an adjustable bed, however another type of adjustable bed might cost significantly more. Therefore, it is important to have a desired price range in mind that will buy a good type of bed but not break the bank in the long run.
    - Particular Adjustable Bed Manufacturer
It is also important to determine if you want to purchase an adjustable bed produced by a particular manufacturer. From time to time, an individual will be in the market for an adjustable bed due to a recommendation from a friend or family member and wants to buy a certain adjustable bed that is produced by a specific manufacturer. As a result, the manufacturer of the bed should be given some consideration.
    - Summary
Buying an adjustable bed is a step in the right direction for many individuals. Not only are these beds comfortable but they may also aid in helping with a certain medical condition such as a bad back. The previously mentioned topics are just a few things a prospective adjustable bed purchaser should consider prior to buying their new adjustable bed.

  • Can You Buy Good,Cheap “Adjustable Beds”?...
By 5 Wheel Scooters on July 16th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Adjustable beds no doubt come in a wide assortment of models, styles, and a plethora of amazing features. Unfortunately, adjustable beds are also capable of causing severe bleeding of the average person’s bank account. If you love the advantages an adjustable bed can provide for you and your loved ones, there is an alternative to buying a brand new shiny product.
Cheap adjustable beds, or should I say, cheaper adjustable beds, are available from a number of different sources. In this article I will try to highlight a few sources where you can start your quest for the perfect adjustable bed at the perfect, or at least, affordable price.
I would definitely try looking in the classified ads of my local newspapers for used, second hand adjustable beds. I tried this myself in the local papers here in Toronto, and I must admit, the pickings were slim, but then again I only did this over a short time frame as research for this article. Hopefully, you will have more luck in your area. Adjustable beds come in two different types, either standard or heavy duty. For the average person or couple, the standard model is what you should be looking for.
One major advantage of finding a good cheap adjustable bed in your local area is that you will not have to worry about shipping costs. If you are a “tire kicker” like me, you will also have the opportunity to go and see, touch, lie in etc., your potential new adjustable bed before you buy. With a little luck, your search could end here.
If on the other hand you are unsuccessful with your local newspaper classifieds, there are always online websites like ebay that sell everything under the sun, including used adjustable beds. If you see an adjustable bed that catches your eye and fits your pocketbook, check out the packing and shipping costs. This is very important. Make sure the seller tells you exactly how much it will cost you to have the adjustable bed packed and shipped to your home. Ask the seller what kind of warranty or guarantee he is willing to give you, to make sure the frame and mechanical and or electrical gizmos work properly, to at least ease your mind. Last but not least, if for some reason you are unhappy with the adjustable bed when you receive it, ask the seller what will it cost you to ship the item back so you can recoup your money, Find out all this information before you even attempt to place a bid on any item.
One very important thing to keep in mind if you are looking for a cheap used adjustable bed. Do not even think of getting a second hand mattress. Ughh, the thought of lying on a mattress that was used, and possibly abused, by someone else conjures up thoughts in my mind that might keep me up tonight. So, now you have to factor in the cost of a new mattress. You cannot use a conventional mattress on an adjustable bed. It has to be an adjustable bed mattress because adjustable bed mattresses are specially designed to be flexible and contour to your body, fitting like a glove and easing stress of your spinal alignment. Just as in adjustable bed prices, adjustable bed mattresses come in a multitude of different materials, sizes and prices.
If you still have not been fortunate enough to find a cheap adjustable bed using the previous methods, you might have better luck looking for adjustable beds on sale or specials on discontinued models. For this you will have to do research on a site like mine. You will find ads that point to manufacturers of adjustable beds of every price range and variety. You are most welcome to come to ADJUSTABLE-BED-CENTER and check out my sponsors, leave a comment, or just say hello. If you are on my site already; lucky you.
Last but not least, “caveat emptor”, or, let the buyer beware. A cheap and good adjustable bed is a possibility, but it is ultimately up to you do the legwork, or fingerwork, if you are on the web, to get a good deal. Good luck.

Bring Home an Adjustable Bed – Improve Your Lifestyle

The modern living is characterized by high pace and hectic schedule. The life becomes extremely stressful, if one can not find out the proper way of relaxation. But you can not afford to rush to a spa or resort to get yourself pampered and rejuvenated every time you feel down. Instead turn your own home into a spa by investing in an adjustable bed that will allow you to relax and unwind in a way you wish or at times when you feel like right at the privacy of your home. No wonder, adjustable beds have come out of their limited peripheries of hospitals or orthopedic clinics, beauty salon or expensive spas to become one of the integral parts of common urbane lifestyle. Adjustable beds can improve the quality of your life in a variety of ways. It is the versatility of this bed concept that makes it the choice of the modern generation. As opposed to the traditional flat beds that were the boring fixtures of bed rooms without any usefulness other than a place for sleeping, the adjustable beds can be used for various purposes when you are not in a mood of leaving the warm sanctuary of your bed room. With an adjustable bed you can enjoy your morning cuppa sitting right at your bed. You can read books by availing the inclined posture of this bed. Even if you are on leave due to flu or any silly reason, you can carry on with your office work over laptop in a relaxed and comfortable manner. Moreover, the adjustable beds give you and your bed room decor long awaited respite from those vexing stacks of pillows. Most of the adjustable beds today provide you hand control facilities and with the press of each button, new ways of comfort and relaxation unfurl before you. Elevate your head or raise your legs, elevate the chest or curl the leg to coil into a cosy posture-an adjustable bed will allow you to find the coolest way of supporting your natural body contour. As such, watching TV will become the most pleasurable and relaxing experience, chatting over phone may become a matter of entertainment and eating breakfast may become a rule rather than exception. Even if you just lie back and keep on daydreaming with your feet up and head raised, you will admit to yourself daydreaming had never been so enjoyable. Then consider the massaging features of these high end beds that give you a variety of massaging options ranging from wave massage to variable speed massage. Just consider, you can avail this age old technique of relieving pain and relax the nerves for free, everyday, right at the privacy of your home simply by making an one time investment on a good quality adjustable bed. Sounds interesting right? Well, let yourself swayed by its charm and reward yourself with an adjustable bed. You get much more from it than what you pay for it. It lets you relax and that becomes the foundation of a happy and healthy living along with your family.

  • Benefits Of An Adjustable Bed – by Scott Michae...
By 5 Wheel Scooters on July 16th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

The bedroom is the living space where many individuals spend a large majority of their time while in their residences. Individuals with disabilities may encounter some difficulties in maneuvering, performing daily activities, and/or accessing furniture. There are many strategies, adaptations, and technologies that can assist an individual in the bedroom. Bedrooms should be designed for comfort, accessibility, and functionality.

Some individuals with disabilities require turning from side to side every 2 to 4 hours as a preventative measure in decubiti (pressure ulcers) care. Others may need to sleep in a semi- “sitting” position for other reasons such as bronchial problems.

Although significant or complete reduction in assistant care may not always be possible, greater independence and flexibility can be achieved through the use of motorized adjustable beds and hospital beds. This technology can also be beneficial to the personal assistant. There are a few differences between adjustable beds and hospital beds.

Hospital beds typically can be paid for by insurance and these purchases are usually processed with little difficulty. The choice in size is limited and it looks like a hospital bed. However, hospital beds have one feature not characteristically found in adjustable beds without significantly altering the price. The entire bed can raise and lower to accommodate preferences for transfers and assistant care.

An adjustable bed looks and feels like a regular bed and comes in various common sizes, i.e. twin, full, queen, etc. In addition, the head and feet can raise or lower to individualized comfort levels. There are also models capable of tilting, massaging and heating. The mattresses may be made of visco-elastic foam, air-filled, latex, and/or coil materials. These kinds of beds are aesthetically pleasing and easy to match with existing decor.

As the name suggests, an adjustable bed (also called a Semi-Fowler bed, as it places the patient in a semi-Fowler position) can be adjusted to a number of different positions. For individuals with certain types of back problems, sleeping on an adjustable bed that is at a slight incline (e.g. 30 to 45 degrees) may be comfortable, with the upper body positioned higher up than the lower body (as when sitting in a recliner) and some support under the knees to bend the knees at a slight angle.

The combination of upper body incline and the knee support can help take some of the stress off the lower back. Provided that the patient is comfortable sleeping in this manner through the night, this position can support the curves osf the spine and relieve pressure on the entire body.

Basically, an adjustable bed has the potential to help anyone who feels more comfortable in an inclined position (such as sitting on a recliner with the feet up) rather than when lying on a regular flat mattress. The following provides a few examples of certain back conditions and how an inclined position in an adjustable bed can sometimes help the patient feel more comfortable

For some people with degenerative spondylolisthesis, sleeping in a reclining position with support under the knees can reduce some of the pain discomfort in the lower back, making it easier to sleep through the night.

Individuals with osteoarthritis in the spine, or facet joint arthritis, often wake up feeling quite stiff and sore in the morning. Sleeping on an adjustable bed may possibly provide better support and therefore decrease the irritation by minimizing joint compression.
In addition, after having low back surgery, some patients feel that an adjustable bed is more comfortable than a flat mattress. Like most choices when it comes to mattresses, this is largely a matter of personal preference.

In general, it is reasonable for a patient to consider the option of an adjustable bed if he or she feels better sitting in a reclining chair with the knees supported or slightly elevated and if he or she is having trouble getting a good night’s rest on a conventional flat mattress. If a patient is not sure if they would benefit from an adjustable bed, or is not sure about buying a new bed, then it is also possible to use pillows to prop up the upper body (being careful to provide support for the lower back) and placing a pillow beneath the knees.

This article provides a brief review of how an adjustable bed works and some theoretical advantages that some patients might find beneficial.

  • Benefits Of Adjustable Beds – by Jan Thomsen
By 5 Wheel Scooters on July 16th, 2009 | No Comments Comments

Choosing a comfortable bed and mattress

The type of bed and mattress is a critical decision for people with back problems. While little is known about the type of mattress is good for the back and little medical information about adjustable beds, there are still a lot of questions as to whether or not an adjustable bed is a better alternative for flat mattresses for people suffering from back problems.

    How an adjustable bed works

As the name implies, adjustable beds (also called a Semi-Fowler bed), can be attuned to various positions. Sleeping slightly inclined gives comfort to people with back problems with the upper body slightly elevated than the lower body and support to the knees at a slight angle. This position eases some stress off the lower back. It provides support to the spinal curves and lightens the pressure on the entire body.

Potential benefits of an adjustable bed

An adjustable bed provides comfort sleeping slightly inclined compared to lying on a regular flat mattress. How certain back conditions can be lightened up and give more comfort provided to people are seen in the following situations

    * Degenerative spondylolisthesis. Adjustable beds reduces the pain discomfort in the lower back allowing a comfortable sleep the rest of the night.

    * Osteoarthritis. This back problem is accompanied by stiffness and sore during the morning. Adjustable beds give better support by lessening compression in the joints.

    * Spinal stenosis. People with this back problem find comfort bending forward rather than standing upright. Flat mattresses provide lesser comfort compared to sleeping inclined which is offered by adjustable beds.

After undergoing surgery in the lower back, patients felt more comfort using adjustable beds compared to flat mattresses.

While a patient may not be sure of the benefits from an adjustable bed or is unsure of purchasing a new bed, a possible option is by propping up the upper body by using pillows beneath the knees.

Patient’s preference should determine the choice of bed and mattress

Sleeping comfort is still the determining factor in the choice of bed or mattress. No particular type of mattress or bed is guaranteed to work for all patients, and no medical studies proves that adjustable beds are preferable. Whatever bed or mattress gives sleep comfort without extra pain is deemed as the best option.

Sleeping or lying down is the only time in which complete relaxation is experienced by the muscles, ligaments and the spine. A person suffering from a back injury needs to have a good sleep in order to help in the healing process.
